New Hampshire Passes Two Gun Control Bills; Veto Likely

The New Hampshire legislature has successfully passed two gun control bills this session, but both face likely vetoes from the state's Republican governor.

The two gun control bills would have instituted a three-day cooling off period between the purchase of a new firearm and when the buyer could actually take possession of the gun; the second bill would have instituted so-called universal background checks for private party transfers of firearms.

[Gov. Chris] Sununu's spokesman says the governor is not looking to make any changes to existing gun laws. Neither bill passed in either chamber with enough votes to override a veto.
